Monster White Crappie

4.01 ounce North Carolina White Crappie
Just recently caught a crappie in a local farm pond in Stanly County of North Carolina. The crappie could have been a new state record, but the fish was weighed at 4.01 ounces, and then released due to good fishing ethics.
Jason's response:What a slab!
Yeah, you didn't miss the state record by much, huh?. It seems that the North Carolina record is constantly challenged. I believe that the current record holder for the state of NC is 4 pounds, 15 ounces.
Since you released the crappie back into the water, it should grow bigger for you to hopefully catch that paper mouth again. =)
Thanks for sharing Jonathan. Congrats on a very nice catch!

Yep, you're right. That does beat the NC state record for white crappie. It displays the record at the North Carolina Fish and Game website
here on the "NC Freshwater Fishing Record..." page, by clicking on the tab that reads "Other" and scanning down to the "white crappie" section... the North Carolina state record for white crappie was set at 3 pounds and 12 ounces on April 6, 2010.
At least now you'll know to keep the next big one like that so that you can be able to follow through with the process - from weighing it on a certified scale, to filling out the application or other paperwork, etc. Then you can reap the rewards that might come with it, like the potential for sponsorships from tackle industries and even potentially some cash money.
Best of luck
pond fishing and I hope you catch another big monster crappie like that again.
